Temporary Position by Scarlett Parrish

Title: Temporary Position

Author: Scarlett Parrish

ISBN: 978-0-85715-800-0

Publisher: Total-E-Bound Publishing (October 31, 2011)

Genre: Ménage à Trois MFM/ Contemporary

Format/Length: Novella (53 pages) 172 KB

Heat Level: moderate/explicit

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥4Hearts

Reviewer: Artemis

From the Publisher:   Jess Ludlow’s spent three months trying to pretend she didn’t kiss two work colleagues after a staff dinner. They might not all work in the same department store but they’re employees of the same parent company and these things have a habit of refusing to be forgotten. The biggest problem is deciding what she regrets more – kissing Tyler and Sebastian at all, or walking away.

Both men have a vacancy only Jess can fill. A staffing dilemma gives them the perfect excuse to draft her in, and a brief window of opportunity to convince her they have unfinished business. Tyler can sweet-talk her in English, Sebastian’s fluent in Swedish, so between them (which is where Jess belongs); they’re ready to pull out all the stops.

And the nipple clamps.

About the Author:   Scarlett Parrish was born at a young age on Planet Earth where she still spends most of her time. Possessed of an unholy lust for James Purefoy, she sometimes ventures out to stock up on chocolate, hurrying home again before the sun burns her to a cinder. Once James realizes she’s the only woman who can make him happy, she plans to rise up, take over the world and have a nice cup of tea.

Clearly, she forgot to take her medication before writing this author bio, but she does have splendid taste in music, the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound and no idea why she’s talking about herself in the third person.

My Review:   This is the first work from this author that I have read and there were things I liked about it and things I would have liked to see done differently. Jess has spent months agonizing over her behavior after an office party. She kissed 2 different coworkers (at the same time) and the memory of it just won’t leave her alone. When she is asked to take a temporary position in their store she jumps at the chance…concerned that it might happen again but excited about the idea as well!

Jesse is a competent and take charge employee and Sebastian and Tyler are both fun-loving and charismatic. The characters genuinely enjoy one another’s company, banter with each other lightheartedly and their interactions seem comfortable. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style.

There were two things that bothered me about the story itself. The first one is a minor issue…Throughout the book, Jess, Tyler, and Sebastian interact with each other in a teasing, fun, and friendly manner. However, when it comes to the actual sex scenes I thought they seemed a little impersonal. Hot, yes, but I think I expected a little bit more romance to go along with it.

The biggest problem I had with it was that it ended very abruptly…I literally thought my copy had gotten cut off somehow! One minute they are in a sexy little encounter and the next minute the book is finished! I think that the author should have drawn the story out a little bit more so we at least know what happens to the character’s relationship at the end.

Overall, though, the writing it quite good. The author created characters I really liked and their interactions and conversations flowed smoothly. I am looking forward to reading more books by her!

Review:  If you’ve read my reviews, you’ll probably know that I am not a big fan of BDSM,  especially of the interracial variety.  I get caught up in word choices and interpersonal dynamics and end up breaking out in my own rendition of “We Shall Overcome.”  Oh, and did I mention, I just don’t get the whole Cougar phenom?

That being said, Stephanie Williams has managed to create a marriage of these three genres without offending my delicate sensibilities.  In fact, this story had me looking online to see if I was too late to sign up to teach a spring class or two.  (Community College…I haven’t grown that much.)

This story is three degrees past hot.  Brett has taken the time since high school to not only work on his academic education, but also his sexual one.  When he finds himself with a bit of time on his hands, he knows it’s time to claim the woman he has always recognized as his perfect submissive.  Mia’s first mind is to run for the hills.  But, something about Brett has her risking all to finally be with a man who can “handle” her.

Now the road to their happy-ever-after isn’t without a few speed bumps.  But, they get there.  If you are like me and thought an interracial, Cougar erotic romance with a touch of kink couldn’t possibly keep your attention, I beg you to rethink that position and click on the product link above.  This read is worth every cent you’ll spend…trust me. ;-)

Reviewer:  Portia

Review:  Is it me, or does every other paranormal book you pick up involve a mating heat that the main characters are helpless to control?  What happens when you find your mate, but the timing sucks…major?

Shyla Colt has written a fresh take on finding a mate.  When Phelan found his mate, he immediately recognizes The Wanting for what it is.  He also knows that his mate is too young, so he waits. Years of crushing on her old professor don’t make finding out he’s her destined mate any easier for Zasha.  She has her own reasons for running from the Wanting.

This was my first Shyla Colt read and I’m not going to lie, I did have some readability issues early on, but that was editorial stuff.  The premise of this book was great; the dialog highly erotic and the overall pace for the romance nice.

I look forward to more from this author in the future and have no doubt she will be a strong voice within the paranormal genre.

Buttercream by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb

Title:  Buttercream

Author:  Roslyn Hardy Holcomb

Genre:  Interracial erotic romance

Length: Novella

Publisher:  Loose Id (July 19, 2011)

Heat Level: Explicit

Kiss Rating: 4.5 Kisses

Blurb:  Like the sinfully decadent treats she whips up in her bakery, Poppy Blakemore is irresistible, even to a battle scarred warrior like Matthew McAlister. Unfortunately, except for a love for delicious pastry and a passion so hot it leaves them scorched in its wake, the two of them have nothing in common. He is a straight-as-an arrow helicopter pilot who has been traumatized by combat, while she struggles to reconcile her capitalist tendencies with her counter-culture background.

The passion between them is undeniable, but Poppy knows that anything more than a sexual relationship is out of the question. Matthew wants so much more. Are sex and buttercream going to be enough to hold them together, or is their love doomed like an overcooked madeleine?

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual content and graphic language.

Reviewer: Portia

Review:  I loved this book.  It was so refreshing to find an interracial book that didn’t mention race.  Not to say that race isn’t important…but, come on…is it really the only obstacle a couple can face?

Okay, off my soapbox.  Poppy and Matthew are very different people.  She was raised by hippies and her family portrait looks like a Benetton ad.  Matthew is a professional soldier.  Despite their difference, they are burning up the sheets on their first date.  Now for those of you who aren’t black women, you might not understand what a no-no that is.  There is an unwritten rule that plainly states that men you sleep with after a first date are shelved in the booty-call box.  Matthew obviously didn’t get that memo.  As far as he is concerned, it was just a fabulous beginning.  Unfortunately…Poppy didn’t get that memo.

Lots of issues may have been avoided if they had talked about their relationship, but they were too busy knocking’ boots at every opportunity.

In addition to some very well written, steamy sex scenes, I loved Matthew.  He is so beautifully flawed.  I know it’s expected to have an Alpha man starring in any romance novel, but Matthew is more like a real guy who reacts like a real guy.  Whether he is trying to sweet talk Poppy out of her panties, reliving his time in Afghanistan, or licking his wounded pride, he was beautifully written.

The only reason I didn’t give this 5 kisses was Poppy.  I’m not sure what I was waiting for with her…but I know I didn’t get it.

This was a much more sensuous read than anything else I’ve read by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb.  I was very pleased to discover she could up the heat without losing any of the sweetness that I expect when I pick up one of her books.  I highly recommend this book.

Harvest Moon by Rochelle Alers

Title: Harvest Moon

Author:  Rochelle Alers

Genre:  Multicultural Romance

Publisher:  Kimani Press

Length:  Novel

Heat Rating:  Moderate

Chocolicious Rating:  4 Kisses

Product Description

Actress Regina Cole achieved overnight success in Hollywood, but stunned the world when she gave up her career to marry a much older man. After his death, Regina encounters his estranged son, Dr. Aaron Spencer, a Brazil-based microbiologist, and is unable to deny the instant attraction. Driven to seduce his father’s widow, Aaron finds that the revenge he sought pales in comparison to his desire for Regina, and the passion he feels is far more than he imagined.

From the Author

HARVEST MOON, is the first book of The Hideaway Daughters & Sisters Trilogy, but overall the fifth book of this popular Hideaway Series. Regina Cole, is the daughter of Martin Cole from the book titled, Hideaway. –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review:  If Rochelle Alers wrote faster, I would be a much happier reader.  I love her work and was not disappointed by Harvest Moon.  Regina and Aaron tried really hard not to fall in love and watching them was a delight.  The story has a really nice pace.  They don’t hop into bed twenty minutes after they meet, but the sexual tension is palpable.   Regina is so much more than Aaron thought she would be.And poor Aaron is just to tempting for Regina to resist.

In true Alers fashion, there is a bit of a mystery woven into the main plot.  I must admit, I got a little nervous as I got closer to the end and the danger that had been alluded to several times hadn’t happened.  I was very pleased and a bit surprised at how it all comes together in the end.  This story was absolutely chocolicious and I highly recommend it.

The Grunt by Latrivia S. Nelson

Title:  The Grunt

Author:  Latrivia S. Nelson

Genre:  Interracial, BW/WM, Contemporary

Length:  Novel

Heat Level: Explicit

Rating: 5 Kisses

Description:  Staff Sergeant Brett Black has a bad feeling that something is going to go terribly wrong. And as a Recon Marine, he pays attention to his gut. Only nothing can prepare him for what he encounters when he arrives at home from the base. His wife is leaving him, and there is nothing he can do about it.

Abandoned with a kid, the super alpha-male has to become domesticated quickly or find a willing substitute to help him with his son. Only the substitute he finds is no substitution.

Courtney Lawless is a true wild card. The budding librarian loves the classics and carries herself like a lady by day. But she also is full of life and surfs the waves of the Atlantic Ocean by night. Since her parents won’t

pay for college because of bad decisions in her past, the reformed bad-girl takes a job as Brett’s live-in nanny to finish paying for school.Brett has never seen a woman of such complex duality. Used to a wife who won’t clean, cook or even talk to him, when he starts to live with Courtney, he realizes what he’s been missing his entire life. Educated, amazing and refreshingly honest, the only thing that this transparent beauty hides from her new boss is that she’s also the Lieutenant Colonel’s daughter.Faced with another deployment to Afghanistan soon, the brooding Marine is forced to come out his shell to fight for what he loves, only this time, the war is at home.

Review:  I would have had this review done a while back but I had to stop a few times and take a cold shower.  This book is just that hot.  From the smoking hot cover til “The End”, it was a pleasure to watch Courtney and Brett fall in love.

Poor Brett just can’t catch a break.  With all the crap this man has been through, he would be justified to rock in a padded room and draw his pennies.  But, he draws on his strength as a Marine to take care of business.  I almost cried when he broke down and prayed for help and before he could get off his knees, Courtney was committing to enter his life.

Courtney is the daughter of a career military man.  She has never dated a Marine, but she been burnt by enough servicemen, to know that she is not cut out to be a military wife.  But from the moment these two connect all the rules change.  From the first kiss, Courtney’s loving care begins to heal places that Brett didn’t even realize were broken.

I loved watching Brett try not to fall in love.  He had so many good reasons not to touch Courtney.  Not the least being that her father is his senior commanding officer.  And Courtney didn’t have to do anything special.  All she did was take care of this wounded soul and his child and the Marine lost the battle he had no way of ever winning.

If you don’t own a Kindle, go buy one.  Just so you can download this book with 1-click.  There is no way you will get more romantic bang for your buck.  This was my first read of this author…trust me, it will not be my last.

I Want It Now

Some readers might think that it’s easier to write 3 novellas than one full length novel, but the opposite is true.  It’s hard to develop characters that readers actually care about in the shorter format.  Especially within erotic romance.  A poorly written novella can quickly turn into porn on paper.  But Sydney Molare does it better than any better than anyone.

You’ve Got Male

Dina has it all, she is a tenured professor considered tops in her field.  But, despite professional success, love has eluded her.  Rather than jump into the dating scene, Dina gets herself a mail-order groom.  One who has spent the past two years training to love her.

Fiending For It

Elena and Chaz are married…just not as happily as in the past.  Too many dinner meetings, too many business trips…too many outside commitments have pulled them apart.  Before it gets any worse, Elena challenges Chaz to take some time out to rekindle…or she’s taking a lover.

Becoming One

Topaz is a card-carrying member of Women are polygamist, Too.  She has three husbands that she loves equally, but she isn’t happy.  How do four individuals make one happy marriage.

I Want It Now is the latest from Ms. Molare.  She has been featured in several anthologies, but this is her first solo endeavor.  I love Sydney Molare’s writing.  She has a master storyteller skill.  Pulling you in, from the first paragraph and holding your attention all the way until the “happily ever after”…oh, and the sex is smokin’ hot.  If you like your romance with strong woman and men who think women are more than just plaything, you will love I Want It Now.

What is Chocolicious?

Chocolicious

Chocoliciousness is different for every reader.  It is the sensation that washes over you at the end of book, a phrase, a word…that mere language can not embody.  The response that flows over your senses like warm chocolate over the finest French vanilla treat.  Simply, it is when a work of fiction has done its job and taken you, for a brief moment, away from the ordinary to an extraordinary space.  A space filled with the secret desires of your heart.  A space that demands that you tune out real life and savor the sensation.

Our rating system is simple.  The most delicious books will receive 5 chocolate kisses, whereas the not so good ones will earn less.  Ratings are based on the individual reviewer’s opinion, as a reader.  At Chocolicious Reviews we accept submissions for all things romantic.  From sweet to out and out raunchy, we review it all.

If you are a reader…we’re here for you.  We hope to be the premier site for honest romantic reviews on the web.  Every review is written for you.  If you think you might be interested in reviewing for Chocolicious…drop an email our way.  Make sure to mention what genres you enjoy the most.

If you are a writer…we’re here for you.  We hope to provide a showcase for the brightest and the best…especially the debuts.  Please submit work in any of the following categories:  Erotic Romance, MM, Menage, Historical, contemporary, suspense, paranormal, urban fiction, IR and multicultural.  If you have any questions, drop a line to oshunsdaughter@live.com.

Hope you’ll stop by often and stay awhile,

Daughter of Oshun
